A few days ago I delivered a rant about a discord server and would like to expand on it here
first of all, here is the unedited rant:
Ironic thinking is presented as a foolproof defense of entirely stupid ideas nowadays, without any point at all. Pre-tiktok, most satire was created with a point in mind, to show a real opinion behind the one that's being presented ironically. Nowadays, brainrot seems to be made with the ironic part serving the exact same purpose as the point. "my humour is broken". It is actually. The type of people who find brainrot funny in an unironic way and the type of people who find it funny in an unironic way act the same, speak the same, and none of them are even close to funny. I dont want to hear any of ye criticising these people because ye all do it to, but add on ANOTHER LAYER OF IRONY to try and make it a "sophisticated" joke when you say "yapanese" et cetera. What's the actual problem with it though? Well nowadays, nothing means anything, nothing online, or now IN ACTUAL REAL LIFE, is presented genuinely or sincerely, without being a dance of "do I mean what I'm saying" and stacking as many references as possible into a small section of text. The death of sincerity on the internet has had consequences on real life, and especially now when its targeted at small children who don't know better, and its unable to be criticized because its "ironic", Well what's the intended message behind making talk tuah or skibidi toilet jokes besides whats presented on the screen? What's the real point? Is it really funny? Put down the irony for a second and think about wether saying "lil bro" has ever made you laugh
This rant is bad for several reasons:
